SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS SUED BY HERMES IP MANAGEMENT IN EDTX

Hermes IP Management LLC (“Hermes”), a Longhorn IP Affiliate, announced today that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (EDTX) against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., and Samsung Electronics America, Inc (collectively, “Samsung”).  The lawsuit seeks damages and a court order to stop Samsung from making, using, selling, or devices infringing Hermes’ U.S. Patent Nos. 8,855,720, 9,613,060, and 8,537,977 (the “Asserted Patents”).  The Asserted Patents cover inventions related to user interfaces, location sharing and noise cancellation that Hermes alleges are incorporated in a voluminous number of Samsung mobile devices.

Previously, Hermes has announced that it has acquired patents related to fundamental technologies such as mobile user interface. The technologies claimed by the patents are employed in most modern mobile devices and systems such as smartphones, tablets and touchscreen laptops.

The Patents originated from SK Telecom, a South Korean telecommunication company and the largest wireless carrier in the country.
